Foundations for Corporate Sustainability
Committing Companies to Sustainable Practices in French-Speaking Africa

The United Nations Global Compact recently concluded its pioneering "Foundations for Corporate Sustainability" program, an initiative supported by the UN Global Compact - France Network and the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.
The program aimed to embed sustainability values and principles into the strategies and operations of companies in French-speaking Africa, promoting responsible business practices.
Held from October 2023 to March 2024, the program comprised six online sessions and culminated in a grand finale event in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, at the CGECI premises, a long-standing partner of the UN Global Compact.
The program's impact was evident, with over 800 participants from 29 African countries, demonstrating the significant interest of African companies in driving sustainability, including gender equality, climate change adaptation, and decent work.
The program's success was particularly notable in West Africa, with Côte d'Ivoire accounting for 22% of participants.
The event marked a significant milestone in the UN Global Compact's journey to establishing a local network in Côte d'Ivoire in the coming months; further solidifying its commitment to promoting sustainable business practices in the region.
