UN Global Compact partners IOE and ATE to promote sustainable job creation in Africa
7th African Social Partners' Summit

The UN Global Compact recently participated in the 7th African Social Partners' Summit (ASP), in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 7-8 February 2024.
The Summit was co-organised by the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) and the Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE) with the support of the European Union and Business Africa.
Under the stewardship of employers, the African Social Partners’ (ASP) Summit served as an important multi-stakeholder platform where key constituents from trade unions, government representatives, youth, academia, and international organisations converged to keep the spotlight on job creation across the African continent.
Speaking on the panel titled 'Access to Finance, Partnerships and Development Finance', the Africa Head of the UN Global Compact, Dr Herve Lado, noted that "To meet the sustainable development goals, we need to substantially increase the investments both in attracting top, purpose-driven talents committed to sustainability and in providing all employees with a living wage, As we get closer to 2030, commitment to sustainability is likely to become a key requirement for businesses to access finance".
This 2024 Summit reviewed current national progress to advance job creation, specify priorities by country, provide best practice examples, identify effective strategies that promote inclusive growth, and sustainable development, and target resilience as we move forward in a post-pandemic era.
