The Global Compact Network Tanzania (GCNT) recently convened a pivotal Business Integrity Forum, bringing together industry leaders and stakeholders to catalyze collective action against corruption and promote sustainable business practices.
The forum, themed "Culture and Business Integrity: Pathway to Sustainability and Success," featured a panel discussion with experts from the public and private sectors, including Mr. Sosthenes Kibwengo (PCCB), Ms. Lulu Ng'wanakilala (LSF), Mr. Salvatory Chuwa (FCC), Ms. Diane Mwaka Wamunza (Brownstone Attorneys), and Ms. Marsha Macatta-Yambi (GCNT).
During the event, GCNT launched the first Responsible Business Code of Ethics for Tanzanian Businesses, aligning with the UN Global Compact's ten principles. Over 40 companies signed onto the code, demonstrating their commitment to integrity, responsibility, and accountability.
"As corruption continues to undermine institutions and impede economic progress, collective action is crucial," emphasized Ms. Marsha Macatta-Yambi, Executive Director of GCNT. "By uniting companies, governments, and civil society, we can reduce bribery by up to 70% and create a more sustainable future."
This initiative supports UN Global Compact Principle 10 and SDGs 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
Key Takeaways:
By championing business integrity, Tanzanian leaders are paving the way for a more sustainable future, where integrity and success go hand in hand.
