Strengthening Healthcare Integrity in Kenya
The newly launched USAWA Program seeks to Catalyze Transparency and Accountability in Kenya's Healthcare Sector

Global Compact Network Kenya, in collaboration with key partners, is playing a pivotal role in the launch of the USAID United Society Against Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (USAWA) Program, aimed at fortifying healthcare systems across Kenya through heightened transparency and accountability measures.
The USAWA Program targets diverse stakeholders including citizens, businesses, media, and faith communities. Its overarching goal is to empower these stakeholders with knowledge of their rights as healthcare consumers, foster a culture of reporting fraud and abuse, and equip them with advocacy skills to champion transparency and accountability within the healthcare landscape.
As the private sector convener under the Kenya Leadership Integrity Forum (KLiF), Global Compact Network Kenya will leverage its experience and resources in anti-corruption and governance, in alignment with the Tenth Principle of the UN Global Compact, to support the implementation of the USAWA Program.
One of the key initiatives under this program is the capacity-building of trainers sourced from the private sector, focusing on county health sector governance and anti-corruption compliance. Drawing from the Code of Ethics for Business in Kenya, Global Compact Network Kenya aims to bolster commitments to the Code, galvanizing the private sector within the healthcare industry to embrace integrity as a cornerstone of their operations and strategies.
Transparency International Kenya leads the implementation of the USAWA Program in collaboration with Global Compact Network Kenya, the Association of Media Women in Kenya, and the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya across five counties: Isiolo, Kakamega, Kilifi, Mombasa, and Nakuru.
Through this concerted effort, Global Compact Network Kenya and other program partners are poised to foster a culture of integrity, accountability, and transparency within Kenya's healthcare sector, ultimately contributing to improved healthcare outcomes and enhanced public trust.
